Hi, I’m Jess – an avid horse lover about to embark on my first adventure with parenting. I have started this blog as a way of documenting my come back from pregnancy and birth to riding, and learning to balance the demands of a young family with my passion for horses. I hope to be able to give other mum’s ideas to enrich their horsing lives while managing children and their often changing bodies.
I’ve been riding since I was very young, my own mum juggled her passion for horses while raising my sister and I. From my first pony Misty at age 6, to my current mare Essie, I have never lost the joy of horses. I’ve tried many different disciplines over my life but settled on dressage and trail as the areas I most enjoy. Upon moving away from home after graduating university I bought my first unbroken mare, a decision I hadn’t planned on. However, Essie has turned out to be that one in a million. We have been on an incredible journey the past 3 years and I have grown and learnt so much as a horsewoman. She has challenged me to be the best I can be, and to treat her in the best way I can.
I have recently qualified as a GP, so I am hoping my background in health can be of some benefit to others. Of course everything I write will be general and I would always encourage people to see their own personal health practitioners for specific advice.
My husband and I are due with our first baby this month – July 2019 – and I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of our little master or miss, and the day I can get back to riding. We are living in town and agisting Essie about 20 minutes away at the moment. We are dreaming of one day owning our own property, however for now I commute and am supported by my amazing horse-husband.
I am looking forward to going on this journey and I hope that I can make a positive contribution in this space of motherhood and equine love.
